According to several of our clients who have recently established companies in Japan, opening a corporate bank account has become increasingly difficult.

We checked with a Japanese credit union and were told that they would have to check the offices of the applicants to make sure of the type of business they were conducting.

The increased difficulty is most likely related to anti-money laundering efforts by the Japanese and other national governments which require very strict background checks.

In order to have your corporate bank application approved you will need to make an effort to prove the legitimacy of your company and demonstrate the validity of the products or services you are selling.
